About
I’m Jean Fraga, a data engineer in Miami, FL. I build cloud data platforms: pipelines, lakehouses and warehouses, plus the infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD that keep them reliable. Most of my work is on Google Cloud.
What I do now
I joined Sanitas Medical Center in April 2022 as a business analyst, and data engineering was part of the job from the start (Python scripts, ETL requirements for dashboards). Since early 2026 I’ve been working full-time as a data engineer under the Chief Data and Applications Officer. Highlights:
- Pipelines that replaced spreadsheets. I replaced manual Excel reporting with automated Python and BigQuery pipelines. Key-based incremental loads upsert 100K+ rows per run into multi-million-row tables, and refreshes went from monthly to weekly.
- Value-based care analytics. I built clinical-outcome pipelines that reconcile EMR data against payer claims, plus XGBoost and NLP forecasts of visit volume and staffing. These informed spending, staffing, insurance and value-based-care bonus decisions.
- Engineering practices. I was the first at Sanitas to adopt source control, dbt and Terraform. I moved code off shared drives and manual deploys onto Azure Synapse with Azure DevOps, and led the company’s first Google Cloud team.
- Data quality. I enforced metadata validation and threshold-based run failures across 10 sources, so errors get caught before they reach users.
- Dashboards and automation. I delivered ~30 Looker, QlikSense and QuickSight dashboards to ~50 clinical, operations, finance and executive users. My Python automations save 10+ hours a month.

How I got here
I spent years in sales and operations before data. I managed 200+ clients at American Transportation & Limo, where my first Python model raised repeat bookings by 10%. I also opened three restaurants on schedule at Happy Corner Hospitality. In 2019–2020 I completed BloomTech’s (formerly Lambda School) Data Science program, then stayed on as a Lead Project Manager guiding cross-functional student teams. The oldest posts on this blog are from that time.
I’m a native English and Spanish speaker.
